The Hiding Place

The Hiding Place

By Colleen Swindoll-Thompson

There are certain days (weeks?) I wish I could crawl into a cave and stay there. At times like those, I find comfort in the poignant words of this hymn.

The Hiding Place

In a time of trouble, in a time forlorn,
There is a hiding place where hope is born.
In a time of danger, when our faith is proved,
There is a hiding place where we are loved.
There is a hiding place, a strong protective space,
Where God provides the grace to persevere;
For nothing can remove us from the Father’s love,
Tho’ all may change, yet nothing changes here.
In a time of sorrow, in a time of grief,
There is a hiding place to give relief.
In a time of weakness, in a time of fear,
There is a hiding place where God is near.1

Today’s Verse:

Therefore, let everyone who is godly pray to You in a time when You may be found;
Surely in a flood of great waters they will not reach him.
You are my hiding place; You preserve me from trouble;
You surround me with songs of deliverance. (Psalm 32:6–7)

Today’s Prayer:

Lord, today I need your place of refuge ... my own “hiding place” as I surrender to your will. I ask for ...

— Strength to persevere (Tell Him all your weaknesses.)
— Hope for my despair (Tell Him all your despairs.)
— Peace in place of fear (Tell Him all your fears.)
